Day 14: HELP; Helping support those in need at home and in hospital

HELP is a self-funding and voluntary charity on the Costa Blanca

There are several charities and voluntary organisations up and down the coast that provide support to those British expats who need it.  HELP was set up 25 years ago in Javea and was originally a ‘good neighbour scheme’ and would provide help and support to those who needed advice and assistance.

This organisation like several of the charities on the Costa Blanca are self funded and do not have any central government funding. They rely on the good will of the expatriate community to support them and volunteer with them.

HELP of Denia, today provides support to not only to the thousands of residents on the Costa Blanca, but also to the thousands of holidays makers who find themselves in hospital and in need to translators or other means of support when they are taken ill.

Over the next few years the charity will face several challenges. They want to provide more support groups for people with diabetes, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. But they can’t do this without the help of those who have worked professionally in those fields.

President of HELP Judith Goodall and volunteer translator Carole Valentie spoke to me at the HELP community center in La Hara about the organisation and the work that they do.

If you would to get involved in HELP you can got to the website and download an application form, or you can call Judith on: 634 345 014
